Perisic lauds Modric's hunger as Croatia chase knockout

Veteran forward Ivan Perisic, 37, of PSV, said on Thursday that he and 40‑year‑old Luka Modric still have the hunger to help Croatia secure a knockout place after a 4‑2 loss to England and a 1‑0 win over Panama in the group stage.

Croatia must now face Ghana to clinch a spot in the knockout round of the World Cup. A win or draw would be enough to advance after the earlier 4‑2 defeat to England and 1‑0 victory over Panama.

During the pre‑match press conference, Perisic was asked about his partnership with Modric. "We stimulate each other and I am convinced we can still improve further," he said.

Perisic stressed that both veterans can still contribute to the national side. He said, "With hard work and great commitment we can push the boundaries. We still have that hunger in us." He believes age will not limit their impact.

Perisic has amassed 156 international appearances, while Modric recently reached the 200‑cap milestone. Both players view their experience as an asset for the squad.

The PSV forward added, "I will also be there to make a difference, as long as I keep up with these young players." He noted his long tenure with the national team and his decision to keep playing.
