Ajax eye Barcelona captain Ter Stegen but no bid yet

Ajax have signalled a keen interest in Barcelona captain Marc‑Andre ter Stegen, but the Dutch side has not yet put a formal offer on the table. Ter Stegen still has two years remaining on his contract, while he has fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona behind Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny.

New Ajax coach Michel has asked the club to explore the possibility of signing the German goalkeeper. Michel previously worked with Ter Stegen at Girona and praised his experience, quality and leadership.

Ajax sporting director Jordi Cruyff has already contacted Barcelona officials to gather information on Ter Stegen’s situation. The Dutch side have been monitoring the goalkeeper for several weeks.

Barcelona aim to offload as much of Ter Stegen’s salary as possible to meet fair‑play requirements. A move would only be viable if Ajax agree to shoulder a significant portion of his wages. The club has already cleared Diego Kochen and Inaki Pena from the payroll, intensifying the need for a solution.

Under Hansi Flick, Ter Stegen no longer holds a prominent role, with Joan Garcia as the first‑choice keeper and Wojciech Szczesny as the second option. A loan could provide the German veteran with regular minutes and grant Barcelona salary relief.

It remains uncertain whether Ajax will submit a formal bid and if Barcelona can secure an agreement in the near future.

The next weeks will decide if the German international swaps Camp Nou for the Johan Cruyff Arena.
