Barcelona agree loan deal with Ecuadorian left-back Josue Caicedo

Barcelona are close to completing a loan agreement for Ecuadorian left-back Josue Caicedo from LDU Quito. The 18-year-old has impressed Barcelona’s scouting network with his versatility and athleticism. Negotiations include a purchase option worth around €2.5 million for the Catalan club. Barcelona’s increased focus on South American talent has identified Caicedo as a key prospect for their development structure.

LDU Quito’s youth system produced Caicedo, who has already featured in the Copa Libertadores. His ability to play as a left-back, despite originally being a winger, adds to his appeal. Barcelona’s sporting department views his stamina and pitch coverage as standout attributes.

Caicedo’s positional adaptability and high-level competition experience align with Barcelona’s recruitment strategy. The club has closely monitored Ecuadorian youth football in recent years. LDU Quito also produced Ederson Castillo, another player Barcelona scouted alongside Caicedo.

The deal would initially bring Caicedo to Catalonia on loan. Barcelona’s purchase option provides flexibility while assessing his long-term potential. His profile has drawn comparisons to Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes due to similar athletic traits.
