Liongola leaves La Louvière for England after four seasons

Jordi Liongola’s spell at La Louvière ends after four seasons as the Belgian club confirms his move to Sheffield Wednesday in League One.

The 24-year-old international midfielder leaves the RAA Louviéroise having made 125 appearances across four campaigns, progressing from the Belgian D1 Amateurs to the top flight. Liongola arrived at the club on a free transfer from Lierse after completing his youth development at Standard Liège until the age of 19.

During his time at La Louvière, Liongola established himself as a key figure on the right flank, often covering vast distances to support both attack and defence. His high work rate and dribbling drew attention despite occasional frustration from supporters over his adventurous style.

Sheffield Wednesday, currently competing in League One following relegation from the Championship, finalised the transfer this afternoon. The club’s move to England follows a season in which they avoided a points deduction after a late-season victory preserved their status.

A new ownership group has already been secured for the club’s return to League One, with Liongola expressing optimism about the future. "I am joining a new era. Sheffield Wednesday is a great club, a historic club with many supporters. I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds," he said in an official statement.

La Louvière’s sporting director confirmed the exit, noting Liongola’s development under their management. The player departs with one year remaining on his contract, having fulfilled his final season in the top division.
