MLS probes Inter Miami Casemiro signing amid tampering claims

Major League Soccer has launched an investigation into Inter Miami CF’s signing of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, whose contract runs through the 2027 season with an option for 2029, after the club announced the deal on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in the United States.

The league said it is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete. MLS also released a statement that it is reviewing a tampering allegation against Inter Miami CF.

In MLS, clubs must hold a player’s discovery rights before negotiating; the LA Galaxy owned Casemiro’s discovery rights. MLS confirmed the Galaxy and Inter Miami have reached a settlement over those rights, with terms to be disclosed after the investigation.

Casemiro, 34, previously spent 2013‑2022 at Real Madrid, making 224 appearances and scoring 24 goals. He then joined Manchester United ahead of the 2022 season, adding 111 matches and 15 goals over four seasons.

The Brazilian midfielder has won five UEFA Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cups, three FIFA Club World Cups, three La Liga championships, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups. He has also earned 91 caps for Brazil.

Inter Miami co‑owner David Beckham said, “I’m very proud to welcome Casemiro and his family to Inter Miami. He is a person and a player that I have admired for a long time. He is a winner who has achieved so much in the game and after such an incredible career with Real Madrid and Manchester United I’m delighted that he’s decided to make Miami his next home.”

The club announced the signing on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, via its website and multiple social‑media posts, confirming the midfielder’s addition to the Inter Miami CF roster. The posting highlighted the player’s contract running to 2027 with an option for 2029.

MLS will continue its review, gathering information on the settlement and the tampering claim, and has indicated it will not comment further until the investigation concludes.
