Portland Timbers eye Dutch striker Janssen as key summer signing

Portland Timbers are looking to fill the void left by Felipe Mora’s departure, and they have identified Dutch striker Vincent Janssen as the ideal solution. The 32‑year‑old former captain of Royal Antwerp FC is available on a free transfer after his contract with the Belgian club expired this summer.

Janssen left Royal Antwerp FC, known as the Bosuil, as a free agent following four seasons in which he became a regular starter and a leader on the pitch. During his last campaign he recorded thirteen goals and seven assists across forty matches in all competitions.

The forward’s résumé includes spells at AZ, Tottenham Hotspur and CF Monterrey, underscoring his experience at a high level. His move to the United States aligns with a long‑standing ambition to play in Major League Soccer.

According to The Athletic, Portland Timbers have reached an agreement with Janssen. The club, under new head coach Martí Cifuentes, view the Dutch striker as their first major summer acquisition.
