Renewed Vojvodina confidence meets Ajax’s European pedigree
Vojvodina arrive at the first leg against the Amsterdammers buoyed by a 4‑0 home victory over OFK Beograd, while Ajax prepare to defend their reputation as a European powerhouse. The contrast was highlighted in a Today‑morning update at 09:20, when FK Vojvodina announced renewed confidence ahead of the encounter.
The Serbian club’s European adventure began in the Europa League first qualifying round, but a loss to Ferencváros sent them to the Conference League. As the Conference League opponent of the Amsterdammers, Vojvodina left the Europa League “with a hangover” last week before opening the Serbian competition with a convincing win.
Trainer Miroslav Tanga told reporters, “Now Ajax awaits, giant after giant.” He added that the tie is “a way to become mature in Europe, costly lessons but we go on,” underscoring the learning curve from the Hungarian club’s earlier success.
Domestically, Vojvodina recovered on Sunday during the Super Liga season opener at the Karadjordje Stadium, beating OFK Beograd 4‑0. Striker Nardin Mulahusejnovic scored twice, saying the four‑goal margin “gives us more confidence.”
Mulahusejnovic, who previously played for FC Noah against AZ, warned, “We know what kind of opponent awaits us. We will give everything to leave the best possible impression. I believe in this team, we will fight until the last minute for a good result.”
The club also praised Ajax’s style, asking in a preview, “If you say total football, do you mean Ajax?” Vojvodina noted that the team has awaited a national title since 2022, providing extra motivation for new coach Míchel, who “aims for the highest ambitions.”
Ajax will travel Thursday at 20:00 for the first leg at Vojvodina, with the return a week later at the Johan Cruijff Arena, also at 20:00. The fixtures were announced on Arena Sport TV and highlighted on YouTube.
The winner of the two‑legged tie will advance to the third qualifying round of the Conference League, where a double meeting with Shelbourne or Nomme Kalju awaits. The loser’s European campaign ends, closing the curtain on their season.
