US Soccer bets on long‑term vision with Pochettino’s 2030 contract

Mauricio Pochettino has agreed a deal to continue as manager of the United States men's national team until 2030, extending the contract he first signed in September 2024. The extension comes after his two-year spell guiding the side to the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

The former Tottenham and Chelsea boss first made headlines by leading Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League final while in charge of Spurs. His success with the London clubs cemented his reputation as a top‑level manager.

Since taking over the United States job in September 2024, Pochettino steered the co‑hosts to the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup before they were eliminated by Belgium. The knockout exit highlighted both progress and the challenges ahead for the programme.

US Soccer announced that the new agreement expands Pochettino and his coaching staff’s remit, tasking them to advise and support the federation on the broader development of the full national team pathway, youth soccer, coaching education, professional league collaboration and other technical facets. The broader role aims to embed the coach’s expertise across the entire US soccer ecosystem.

"Working together with US Soccer over the past two years, it has become clear to us that there is tremendous potential to make the men’s national team programme even stronger," Pochettino said. "We are excited by the opportunity to bring all our experience and knowledge to even more areas of US Soccer while helping strengthen the pathways for players, coaches and teams across the federation," he added. "Mauricio has built a culture where players trust the group, trust the process and trust each other," US Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone said. "That culture, and the staff who helped build it, are exactly what we want to continue investing in for the men’s national team now and for the future."
