Janssen’s MLS dream realised as Portland Timbers secure veteran striker

Droom Janssen, 32, is poised to join the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer in the United States, sources told VI Vandaag at 15:54. The former striker of Almere City, AZ, Tottenham Hotspur, Fenerbahçe, Monterrey CF and Antwerp FC will sign for the MLS side, fulfilling a long‑held ambition.

Janssen’s move satisfies a personal wish: the forward, married to an American‑Mexican woman, has repeatedly expressed a desire to play in the Major League Soccer. He and his partner plan to settle permanently in the United States after his playing career ends.

Although Antwerp offered a contract extension, Janssen chose to close the Belgian chapter after four seasons, leaving the club that had employed him since 2020.

During his spell at Antwerp FC, where Marc Overmars serves as technical director, Janssen amassed 173 appearances, netted 64 goals and provided 27 assists.

He began his professional journey at Feyenoord, broke through at Almere City, earned a high‑profile transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, and later featured for Fenerbahçe, Monterrey CF and Antwerp FC before heading to Portland.

The Timbers secure a veteran forward with experience across the Dutch Eredivisie, English Premier League, Turkish Süper Lig and Mexican Liga MX, aligning with their aim to add proven goal‑scoring pedigree to the squad.
