Messi’s first post‑Copa do Mundo goal sparks Inter Miami comeback
Lionel Messi recorded his first goal since the Copa do Mundo on Wednesday, finding the net in a Leagues Cup clash for Inter Miami. After the side fell behind with just three minutes played, the Argentine star equalised, setting the stage for a 2‑1 lead as the match progressed.
The strike marked Messi’s 926th career goal and his 90th for Inter Miami. He received a cross from Allen and finished with a first‑touch volley.

This was Messi’s second appearance for Inter Miami since the Copa do Mundo. His first post‑World Cup outing was last Saturday, a 2‑2 draw with Columbus Crew.
In that debut, Messi entered the field for Daniel Pinter seven minutes into the second half. The substitution marked his first competitive minutes after the tournament.
The Leagues Cup brings together clubs from the United States and Mexico. Inter Miami’s campaign in the competition continues with the current 2‑1 advantage.
The match remains in progress, with Miami holding a 2‑1 lead. Messi’s involvement has turned the early deficit into a winning position.
