MLS probes Inter Miami over Casemiro discovery‑rights deal

Major League Soccer announced that Inter Miami unveiled Brazilian midfielder Casemiro on Wednesday, confirming his two‑year contract with an option to extend to 2029 after he left Manchester United as a free agent and former Real Madrid star, and the discovery‑rights deal was reported at roughly £750,000.

Major League Soccer said it will investigate the circumstances surrounding Casemiro’s high‑profile move to Inter Miami.

Under MLS rules, clubs may place players on a discovery list, giving them first negotiation rights and preventing rival teams from pursuing those players without an agreement.

LA Galaxy held Casemiro’s discovery rights before Inter Miami secured them.

MLS confirmed the two clubs reached a settlement over the discovery priority, but the league is reviewing whether any rules were breached during the process.

In a league statement, MLS said it is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete.

Inter Miami has previously faced regulatory penalties, including a 2021 fine and suspension of chief operating officer Paul McDonough after incorrectly reporting French midfielder Blaise Matuidi’s salary.

Despite the ongoing probe, Casemiro is expected to begin the next chapter of his career in Florida after leaving United as a free agent.
